Can compliance-related responsibilities be successfully offloaded to a third party through outsourcing? In the area of Governance, Risk and Compliance, isn't it is the corporate entity's responsibility to ensure that appropriate checks and balances are in place for their business? A well-worded contract can make it clear that you expect the supplier to do things correctly, but if they don't do things correctly it would seem that all you could do is get them for breach of contract. Ultimately wouldn't you still have to shoulder the responsibility for being out of compliance, regardless of how you got that way? This doesn't mean I don't believe there's value to strategic utilization of third party resources... but how much risk can you really avoid by making it someone else's problem?
